Scott grew up on his family farm at St. Lawrence Corners with his parents David and Sharon and his brother Christopher. He graduated from Thousand Islands High School in 1984. Scott married Lisa M. Ingerson on December 10, 1994. They moved into the village of Clayton in 1996. Lisa has owned Shear Expressions Hair Salon since 1997. Their daughter Victoria graduated 6th in her class and earned an Advanced Regents Degree with Honors from TIHS. She played on the Varsity Boys golf team for 5 years. Victoria is currently a sophomore at St. Lawrence University planning to major in Biology and minor in public health with the intention of attending dental school after graduation. Their son Owen is a freshman at TIHS. He plays baseball and hockey. Owen recently joined the Junior Fire Fighter Program in Clayton.
Scott worked for various construction companies including Rogers Construction, Rusty Johnson Masonry and the 801 Projects until October of 1990 when he began working for NYS Department of Corrections. Scott was assigned to Sing-Sing and Fishkill Correctional Facilities until he was transferred home to the Cape Vincent Correctional Facility in October 1994. He joined the Correctional Facility Fire and Safety team and served as a Fire Deputy until his retirement. He retired from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in November of 2016 after serving over 26 years. He started Scott’s Lawn Care in 1996 and currently maintains 36 lawns.
Scott joined the Clayton Fire Department in 1987. In 1994 he was elected Assistant Fire Chief and served in that position for 9 years. In January of 2018 he was re-elected as the Assistant Fire Chief.
Scott believes his time playing sports in high school along with Victoria’s & Owen’s love of sports led him to his passion of volunteering in youth organizations. Scott joined the Clayton Youth Commission in 2011 as a Baseball / Softball Coach and Equipment Manager. He joined the 1000 Islands Youth Hockey Board in 2012 with his wife Lisa. He took on the role of Equipment Manager. Lisa took over the Fundraising and Concession. Over the next few seasons he received his coaching certificate and was an Assistant coach for the Squirt, Pee-Wee and Bantam levels. In 2016 Scott and Lisa took on the responsibility of the Alexandria Bay Concession as part of 1000 Islands Youth Hockey program.
Scott plays a key role in maintaining all of the ball fields in Clayton on his own time with his own equipment in all types of weather conditions. He is constantly grooming and lining the fields at Cerow Recreation Park and the Clayton Lions Field. You can see Scott working on the fields anytime from early morning to late in the evenings. He also assists the D.P.W. with watering the Clayton Lions Field and maintaining the grass around the bleachers and fences.
Scott enjoys spending time with his family, photography, hunting, the river, golf, stock car races and weekend breakfasts with friends.
